"As I was pulled down into darkness, the beings - things - outside the bubble metamorphosed into ever more frightening combinations of insects and angels, crustaceans and hummingbirds, infants and squids. Sexlike but demonic organisms with high-pitched voices flattened their intimate surfaces up against the bubble. Fear of a completely new kind turned me into an embodiment of despair. But far more frightening than all of these - a thickening darkness took over, accompanied by an incredibly deep droning sound, unintelligible, but emanating a murderous ambiance of unadulterated accusation."
